Fundraising Ideas

Every £1.25 that you raise pays for a book to get into the hands of a reader overseas.

£320 pays for a case of books for a library service, university, hospital or school (each case contains an average of 240 books). If you raise £320 or more we can report back to you with specific details of the case of books that you paid for. Please bear in mind that we cannot assess the impact of the books until nine months after we have received your donation. If you allow your donation to be unrestricted we will use it wherever it is needed most and will supply a feedback pack with pictures of some of the many organisations we have helped during the previous year.

Why not approach your company to join in with Book Aid International's Bring a Book To Work Week initiative? We'd love you to take part!

When planning your own fundraising event in support of Book Aid International.....

1) Decide what type of event you want to hold:

Sponsored events e.g. sponsored read, sponsored walk, parachute jump - download a template sponsorship form for printing and photocopying  (if you would rather make your own be sure to include our registered charity number, which is 313869)

Book sale or book swap - get all your colleagues and/or local community involved. To run a book swap you need everyone to bring along a book and exchange it for a token or ticket (ask them to make a donation of £1 to Book Aid International in exchange for their token). Once all the books have been gathered in the book swappers come along and hand in their token in exchange for the book of their choice - it's that simple!

Events in libraries - why not donate all library fines collected during March, the month when World Book Day falls? You could have a collection box as well - if you haven't got a suitable container ring us and we can post one to you.

It helps to give an event a theme, even a general one. Try using one of our slogans; 'Help us open up the world through books.'

2) Give our fundraising team a call to let us know what you're planning:

We'll try our best to offer help or advice. Talk to Lesley Pinder on 020 7733 3577 or contact her by email.

3) Let as many people know as possible:

Whether through local press, the parish magazine, office newsletter, or posters on display boards, use as many ways as you can to ensure that everyone knows about your event. We have posters available if you need them.

Don't be shy about asking for support - the worst that can happen is that someone will say no! Carry the sponsorship form around with you and ask your friends and everyone in your office - you could pin up the form on a noticeboard at work.

4) After your event:

Collect up all your donations and/or sponsorship and send a cheque made payable to 'Book Aid International' to Community Fundraising, Book Aid International, 39-41 Coldharbour Lane, London SE5 9NR

We'd love to hear how your event went (including both what worked well and what didn't) and to see photos of the occasion!
