Thorpe Greenways Junior School in Southend-on-Sea raised money throughout Book Week, which culminated on the Friday with staff and children paying 1 pound each to dress up as characters from the book 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.

St Piran's Preparatory School in Hayle, Cornwall raised money with a 1 pound entry fee for a Paint-a-Poem competition. They also hung “leaves” with our favourite poems written on them, from the camellia tree in the playground to make a Poet-tree (which was also in full bloom!) All the profits from their school newspaper, which the pupils write, went to Book Aid International this term.

Carol de Labat, the Deputy Head at St Piran's, said “A love of books is fundamental to learning, and the children have really enjoyed raising money in creative ways: to help to provide better access to books in other parts of the world.”
