Immanuel

Immanuel lives in Kenya. In Kenya Book Aid International works with the national library service, who have branches all over the country. They also have a camel mobile library to reach nomadic people who live in an area called Garissa. The nomads move around as the seasons change, seeking out food and new land for their animals to graze on. To make sure that their children can carry on learning and have new books to read the camel mobile library travels out to them, carrying boxes of books on its back.

Immanuel's story

Immanuel Joseph is 10 years old and lives in a village in rural Kenya. He is very unusual within the village as he is the only child to have books to read at home. His friends' families have no money to buy books as most of their money goes towards paying for their children's schooling. In fact most of the children in the village also work to help towards the cost of school fees by preparing and selling charcoal.

However, Immanuel is a very generous boy and loves to share his books with his friends. Every Saturday afternoon all the boys get together to read and they are planning to form a reading club and will even ask the village girls to join them!

Book Aid International provides books for Kenya National Library Service an organisation that runs mobile library services taking books to rural schools and communities, whether by camel, motorbike or book bus. By making a donation you can help children who are eager to read like Immanuel and his friends.
