Publishers' Golf Day Results

The second annual Book Aid International Publishers' Golf Day took place on 8 May 2008 at Dulwich and Sydenham Hill Golf Club.

Quercus Publishing, winning team at Book Aid International Publishers' Golf Day

The winning team, Quercus Publishing

A glorious day greeted our 12 teams, who played 18 holes in beautiful sunshine. Competitive spirits were high but the day was survived without any major golf-course dramas and the 19th Hole was buzzing with tales of missed putts, great drives and team cameraderie.

Following their rounds, the teams were treated to a three-course meal in the clubhouse hosted by Philip Walters, a Book Aid International Council member and director of Hodder Education. A prize-giving was held, as well as a prize-packed golf day raffle which raised over £590.

Special thanks must go to Philip Walters, Comet Plc, The Drift Golf Club, Great Hadham Golf Club, Hampton Court Palace Golf Club, Shirley Pinder Design, Burnt Sugar, Elemis, Headline, LIttle, Brown Book Group, and WH Smith, who all donated golf competition prizes, raffle prizes and goodie bag items for the day.

The day raised a total of £3,800 net, which will allow Book Aid International to send over 3,000 books to some of the poorest countries in the world. We are extremely grateful to all of those who took part, not only for helping us raise such a great amount of money but also for their enthusiasm and high spirits which made the day especially enjoyable.

So, now to the most important part - the results!

This year the top team were newcomers to the Publishers' Golf Day: Quercus Publishing, headed up by Mark Smith, not only took the Best Team award (previously won by Orion) but Mark also won Best Player. 'Nearest the Pin' was won by David Kohn playing on behalf of Headline while Jon Wood from Orion won the Longest Drive.

Here is what the winning team had to say:

"This was Quercus' first Book Aid International Publishers' Golf Day and we were extremely pleased to come away with the best team and best player prizes.  It was a fantastic day - great weather, an excellent course and we were especially pleased to have the opportunity to support Book Aid International and the great work that they do.  We look forward to defending our title next year!" Mark Smith, Quercus Publishing.
