Book Aid International's Beth Murphy with Aster Berhane in Keren Public Library, Eritrea |
We are delighted to report that in 2007 Book Aid International received over 400,000 books as donations from the UK book trade. This is very exciting news, as these books are all brand-new titles which will have a long shelf life in a library in Africa or Palestine.
Many publishers have even been setting up processes in their warehouses whereby Book Aid International automatically receives titles which have been returned from a bookseller and are not eligible for re-sale. We would like to say a huge thank you to all those publishers who are making such a dedicated contribution to this vital work.
On a recent visit to Eritrea, our Head of Acquisitions, Beth Murphy, met librarian Aster Berhane and saw books donated by Harcourt Education (now part of Pearson Education) put to very good use in their new home in Keren Public Library. Following Beth's visit, we have received another generous donation of BTEC coursebooks and titles from the 'Impact' series of plays. We are very grateful for this valuable support.
If you are a publisher who is interested in finding out more about working with us to provide top-quality books to the developing world, please contact Louise Miller on 020 7733 3577 or by email.
NB. As a result of these exciting developments, we are no longer able to accept second-hand book donations. For more information, click here.
